What should I look for when choosing a dentist?

You need to find a dentist with whom you can be comfortable and at ease. To find a suitable dentist to meet your needs consider asking the following questions as a start:

– Is your dentist reputable? Known by anyone of your siblings?
– Are his office hours convenient to meet your schedule?
– Is the office easy to access from work or home in order to save time
– How often does this dentist attend conferences and workshops?
– Does he help you feel relaxed and comfortable during any dental treatment?
– Does he provide with you exact information about all fees and payment plans before you start your treatment?

What are dental sealants and how long do they last?

Sealants are a thin, plastic coating that is painted on the chewing surfaces of your teeth, usually on the back teeth (the premolars, and molars) to prevent tooth decay. The painted on liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.
Typically, children should get sealants on their permanent molars and premolars as soon as these teeth come in. In this way, the dental sealants can protect the teeth through the cavity prone years of ages 6 to 14. However, adults without decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from sealants.
Sealants can protect the teeth from decay for many years, but they need to be checked at regular dental check-ups.

How can I improve the whiteness of my teeth?

You should be aware of the foods you are eating and the medications you are currently using that could affect the color of your teeth. Purchasing a whitening product may not be the best or quickest solution. There are risks and benefits to using over the counter products on your teeth so schedule an appointment with your dentist for a free consultation and we will tell you the best solution to improve the whiteness of your teeth

Which toothpaste should I use?

You should consider using toothpaste with fluoride. And we advise you to talk with your dentist to see what’s right for you or if you have any other specific issue.

How can I relieve a toothache?

We advise you to immediately schedule an appointment with your dentist to find out what is causing your toothache. If you experience a toothache in the late evening or early morning when the dentist’s office is not open, it has been said that you can relieve some discomfort by placing clove oil. It is well known for relieving tooth pain it will act as a natural sedative for the nerve inside of your tooth.

Why should I floss, isn’t brushing enough?

Brushing without flossing is like washing only one hand! Flossing reduces the number of bacteria in your mouth. There are millions of these microscopic bacteria that come from food particles and they are left on your teeth. These bacteria live in plaque which will be removed by flossing because it can get rid of the bacteria your toothbrush can’t get to! Flossing daily helps getting rid of some small bacteria hiding in the tiny spaces between your teeth. If you do not floss, you allow plaque to remain between your teeth. Eventually it hardens into tartar and only your dentist can remove tartar!

How can I prevent cavities?

There are many ways to prevent cavities; first of all you have to spend two to three minutes brushing your teeth, it takes that long to get rid of the bacteria which destroy your teeth! Do not brush too hard, it takes very little pressure to remove bacteria and plaque and floss at least once a day, it is the only way to get rid of small bacteria hidden in your mouth. Sugar is also instead of as well one of the reasons of cavities. There is sugar in candy, fruits and chips! These are the foods that the bacteria in your mouth like best, for example peanut butter provides a constant supply for the bacteria into your teeth. To avoid this from happening always brush your teeth and floss afterwards! If you are not able to brush, chewing a sugar free gum after a meal can also help.

What causes morning breath?

During the night while you are sleeping, saliva production in your mouth automatically decreases. Since saliva is the mouth’s natural mouthwash, most people experience morning breath. Bacteria found on teeth and on the tongue, break down the food particles, which produce sulfur compounds. It is actually these sulfur compounds which give our breath a bad odor. During the day while you are awake, saliva helps to wash away bacteria and food particles. Saliva also helps to dissolve the foul smelling sulfur compounds. Long-term mouth odor can be a sign of more serious illness, check with your dentist if this is a main concern.

What to do if I fear the dentist?

The key to eliminate dental anxiety is to openly discuss your fears with your dentist! Once your dentist knows what your fears are, he will be able to work with you to determine the best way to make you less worried and more comfortable.
